Electrical Maintenance Engineer

 

Our Client, a global multi-site specialty chemical company, has an immediate opening for an Electrical Maintenance Engineer. This corporate level position can be located in North Carolina or Texas.

 

Job Description

The Electrical Maintenance Engineer will promote electrical safety, maintenance best practices, training, development of engineering design standards, and improvement programs across the Company’s domestic and international plant sites.  One of the first priorities will be helping plant sites to implement the revised corporate Electrical Safety policy issued in September 2017.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Promote safe work practices for maintenance and reduce the number of maintenance injuries and incidents across the company.
  • Keep up to date and communicate changes or areas of non-compliance with OSHA, NEC, NFPA 70E, and NFPA70B requirements as they pertain to industrial plant installations.
  • Work with plant sites to set up programs to bring sites into compliance with the Company’s Electrical Safety policy
  • Develop electrical maintenance best practices and procedures for the company based on industry best practices.
  • Develop and review specifications and standards so that all sites are performing repairs and construction in the same manner to maximize buying power and efficiency.
  • Work with sites to establish criteria for critical equipment and establish predictive and preventive maintenance programs that comply NFPA 70B
  • Where possible work with sites to standardize equipment and limit manufactures to maximize buying power minimize efforts for replacements in kind.
  • Regularly perform electrical safety audits and verify required electrical documentation is being kept up to date.
  • Work with sites to develop a listing of the appropriate construction materials needed to meet electrical classification and atmosphere requirements to maximize lifecycle of equipment installations
  • Perform gap assessments on maintenance best practices and standardize these where possible at the Company’s plant sites .
  • Be a champion to push sites to continuously improve their electrical maintenance and reliability programs
  • Provide technical support for troubleshooting, problem solving, and providing root cause failure analysis related to electrical installations.
  • Evaluate requirements for electrical safety and maintenance training programs to comply NFPA 70 E and B. Develop training programs and guidelines for sites to comply with these requirements for qualified electrical personnel performing maintenance or construction activities at Company facilities.  This should include a combination of hands-on, computer-based, and outside training.
  • Work with the Engineering Design and Standards groups to develop new engineering design standards for electrical equipment and installations.
  • Work with engineering and design group to establish acceptance criteria and testing required for new installations
  • Serve as project champion for arc flash and over duty mitigation projects and other projects that improve reliability, phase out obsolete equipment, or correct other electrical safety issues.  Understand the needs for each site, provide input to project scope, prioritize projects, and promote these projects with GBU leadership.
  • Serve as the corporate representative to ensure that electrical maintenance projects meet criteria set forth to minimize incident energy and shock hazards while meeting short circuit fault ratings and site coordination requirements.
  • Develop motor repair and testing guidelines and champion electrical motor reliability program.

 

Required

  • BS or higher degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • 15+ years of experience in maintenance and design of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution systems 138 KV and below
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical maintenance best practices.
  • Experience with Root Cause Failure Analysis and incident investigation for electrical equipment failures.
  • Extensive knowledge of the design and maintenance requirements for a variety of electrical power distribution equipment including medium and low voltage switches, transformers, feeder breakers, motor control centers, arc flash protection systems, high resistance ground systems, cabling and motors.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety), NFPA 70B (Electrical Maintenance) and OSHA requirement compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the ability to read, understand, and modify electrical documentation such as single line diagrams, panel drawings, motor schematics, and equipment specifications and design drawings.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical area classification requirements.
  • Working knowledge of electrical modeling software as it relates to incident energy, short circuit ratings, protective device coordination, and load flow. ( Experience with ETAP is plus )
  • Experience with 50 Hz systems and IEC is a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical equipment acceptance testing as it relates to NETA standards.
  • Working knowledge of SAP.
  • Proficiency in Lotus Notes and Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). Ability to perform design in Autocad is a plus.
