Our Client, a multi-site refiner and distributor of petroleum products, has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Superintendent at one of its refineries in Texas.

Major Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize daily / weekly Contractor schedules and execute operations priority work each day using SAP CMMS
  • Writing purchase requisitions as required
  • Coordinate contractors working in specific areas, i.e., API 653 tank work, spill clean up, grounds maintenance etc.
  • Communicate and coordinate daily needs with the Maintenance Superintendents and Operations as needed.
  • Ensure safe working practices and procedures are adhered to each day.
  • Attend and steward planning meetings each week to prioritize work and communicate with customers.
  • Attend daily Maintenance/Operations meeting.
  • Understand and execute cost control techniques to control the budget spending.
  • Supervise multiple craft and contractors during turnarounds.
  • Drive continuous improvement using metrics and benchmarking to validate performance and verify required core competencies.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with Contractor, Vendors and Suppliers.
  • Monitor activities of in house embedded contractors and third party providers to ensure their adherence with scope of work, and established budget and timelines.
  • Report spending and status on all projects/daily/weekly maintenance activities.
  • Compliance to goals for safety and environmental performance
  • Ensure process are followed and/or developed and implemented for the controlling of the day to day maintenance and Project work per recommended best practices.
  • Provide accurate status and forecast of the work with respect to costs and schedule to Management in order to meet production commitments.
  • Ensure work execution adheres to the defined quality expectations.
  • Continuous improvement of the Maintenance organization, planning and execution process.


Requirements – Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Five (5) years of experience in Refining or petrochemical field including two (2) years of experience in a supervisory/management role
  • Comprehensive experience in Plant construction, maintenance and/or capital projects
  • Knowledge of Plant turnarounds, capital projects and construction industry,Tank repairs and construction techniques and best practices
  • Proven experience in the maintenance construction and supervision
  • Working knowledge of Industrial engineering, safety, and IHS standards and procedure
  • Working knowledge of the chemical/Refinery (or related) industry and or API Standards
  • Ability to develop and manage computerized schedules (e.g.: scheduling logic, manpower resource loading & histograms)
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to develop & lead diverse field of contract workers
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution skills
  • Proven communication skills including ability to develop and deliver presentations.
  • Proficient in utilizing computer including Microsoft Office, SAP, CMMS
  • Proven negotiation skills, including development and interpretation of Master Work Agreements
  • Ability to apply professional concepts, experience and company objectives in order to resolve contract issues
  • Proven experience in establishing, maintaining and managing professional relations with Contractors, Suppliers, and Vendors


Desired Characteristics

  • Ten (10) years of experience in refining or petrochemical industry including five (5) years of experience in a supervisory/management role
  • Knowledge or equipment reliability and mechanical integrity including, fixed equipment, tank repairs, Crane use, civil and structural standards, inspection techniques and piping, vessel and exchange fabrication.
  • Experienced in managing in an union environment
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards
  • Knowledge of API Standards and or ANSI codes
  • Knowledge of pipe and structural welding
