Our Client, a leading global supplier of specialty hydrocolloids and biopolymers, has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Supervisor at one of its sites near San Diego CA. 

Job Description

The Maintenance Supervisor will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the maintenance team and will be responsible for all craftsmen - mechanical, electrical, pipefitters, welders, etc. The Maintenance Supervisor will lead the group in the area of safety, environmental compliance, quality, and organizational effectiveness and will ensure department’s goals and activities support the plant key performance indicators. Responsibilities include

  • Ensure all maintenance activities at the plant are appropriately carried out to include: managing work orders; troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment problems; assigning task and scheduling crew for repairs; monitoring quality performance of completing tasks; and closing out job orders once tasks are confirmed complete.
  • Develop work instructions and repair procedures and ensures all crew members are properly trained to those procedures.
  • Manage repair work and coordinates with other maintenance and engineering groups to maximize downtime utilization.
  • Manage maintenance and construction contractors and ensure all work is completed according to contract and company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure operating reliability of equipment and coordinates equipment and facility inspections.
  • Ensure safe operations and activities of the Plant Maintenance Department, specifically monitoring and mentoring his crew on hazard recognition and safe practices.
  • Ensure environmental VPP, ISO, PSM, and GMP compliance and continuous work towards improving department quality and the resolution of all non-conformities in a timely manner.
  • Maintain an active personnel development program within the department that includes both personal and plant development goals.
  • Manage the department budgets so that financial targets are achieved.
  • Administer company policies, procedures, and the collective bargaining agreement and address any violations and disciplinary issues in consultation with HR.
  • Supervise, monitor payroll time keeping, disciplines, and mentors his crew.
  • Assist in the recruitment of maintenance staff and the evaluation of their performance.
  • Ensure recording of historical reports of equipment performance, reliability, and maintenance task effectiveness.


  • High School Diploma required. Preference will be given to candidates with B.S. Degree in Engineering or Associates Degree from accredited technical college.
  • 7-10 years of experience in maintenance and operations in a chemicals environment.

Other requirements include

  • The ability to work collaboratively with appropriate members from operations, maintenance, engineering, technical, and EHS.
  • Advanced trouble shooting skills with experience working in a multi-disciplinary chemical manufacturing environment.
  • The ability to monitor multiple tasks simultaneously to ensure quality of work performed.
