Director, North American Marketing (Rare Disease):


My client, a small, well-established specialty pharmaceutical company in the North San Francisco, CA area, has multiple products on the market, as well as a strong pipeline.  They are a world leader in developing and commercializing innovative products for serious rare diseases and medical conditions driven by genetic causes.

The Ideal candidate for this role will have the following:

  • 10-15 years pharma experience, including 10+ years in marketing
  • Solid (and current) US HCP marketing experience (prefer experience as US Brand Lead)
  • Experience managing direct reports
  • Patient marketing experience strongly preferred
  • KOL Development experience
  • Orphan product experience is a plus, but not required
  • Tremendous demonstrated collaboration skills required
  • Quick learner, innovative thinker, pro-active doer
  • Desire to roll up sleeves and get your hands dirty…both strategically and tactically
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship


TITLE: Director, North American Marketing (Rare Disease)

LOCATION:   Northern San Francisco, CA area

The Director, North American Marketing, is responsible for overall product marketing and brand management related to therapeutic area products in North America (United States and Canada). The position is a unique opportunity to lead flagship brands and develop innovative initiatives to drive diagnosis of these ultra-rare disorders. This position requires a mix of strategic acumen, adaptability to a unique therapeutic area, a willingness to roll-up your sleeves and an ability to mentor others.



  • Prepares product marketing and pre-marketing plans and associated budgets, and is responsible for managing execution against plans and budgets
  • Prepares the annual brand plan for North America, and coordinates with brand plan development in other pertinent functions including, Sales, Sales Operations, & Market Access and Patient Services, and Global TA Marketing Team
  • Leads and/or provides senior oversight for key HCP-directed activities including advisory boards, symposia, market research and speaker bureau
  • Leads innovative diagnostic initiatives with labs and/or third parties as opportunities allow in order to generate earlier testing and diagnosis
  • Provides senior leadership direction for patient and caregiver focused initiatives
  • Manages marketing team members and provides oversight and mentorship
  • Monitors progress of plans and makes adjustments as necessary
  • Full participant in TA Global Marketing team
  • Selects and manages the relationship with third-party service providers (agencies, vendors) as required Coordinates with and across other commercial and medical functions in North America for effective commercial plan execution
  • Interacts with compliance, legal, program management and any other stakeholders associated with North American commercial activities
  • Monitors and ensures internal medical/legal review processes are followed and are effective



  • Bachelor in Business, Arts or Science, MBA preferred 
  • Minimum 10 years of related marketing experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry, including depth of experiences across the marketing mix and therapeutic categories.
  • 10+ to 15 years experience
  • KOL development and patient marketing experience required.
  • Previous experience as a US brand lead preferred. 
  • Previous experience leading/influencing cross-functional stakeholders (sales, medical, operations, etc) required
  • Rare disease experience preferred
  • Management Experience Required
