I am currently seeking a Director, New Products.  The Director, New Products will provide commercial input to the development of the company’s early product candidates and conduct commercial assessments for business development opportunities. 

 

YOU:

  • Solid experience in commercial assessments in the pharma/biotech space (pre-clinical, phase I/II as well as BD opportunities)
  • Strong understanding of scientific data and issues as they impact product development and commercialization with a thorough understanding of the drug development process from preclinical through launch
  • Experience working with R&D
  • Orphan product or rare disease experience preferred
  • Ability to understand the science and learn new scientific areas quickly
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship

 

TITLE:  Director, New Products

LOCATION: Boston, MA

REPORTS TO:   Executive Director, New Products

The Director, New Products will provide commercial input to the development of the company’s early product candidates and conduct commercial assessments for business development opportunities.  The successful candidate will be passionate about developing and delivering life-transforming therapies for patients with severe and life-threatening diseases rare diseases.  This person will help drive the company’s commercial strategy for future growth of the company’s pipeline in rare diseases in collaboration with R&D and Business Development colleagues.  These responsibilities will include providing strategic guidance and commercial assessments for new products from the preclinical to proof of concept stages of development and evaluating business development opportunities.  Success will require the individual to develop strong cross functional relationships in a multicultural environment to lead the organization through accomplishing stretch objectives in a high paced environment that is focused on the patient.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide commercial assessments, input and strategic guidance for the company’s early R&D portfolio including Preclinical and Phase 1/2 clinical development programs and Business Development opportunities as directed by the Executive Director, New Products
    • Lead all aspects of commercial decisions and input for new products including development of global market assessments, commercial input to disease/indication selection, commercial strategies, commercial implications of scientific/clinical data, disease and diagnostic market development, target product profiles, product positioning, pricing and reimbursement, forecasting, early-stage market planning, customer and patient segmentation, and other activities related to strategic market development
    • Provide commercial insight and guidance to the global R&D teams related to support decisions regarding new Discovery projects
    • Provide commercial insight and guidance to the company’s due diligence teams by developing revenue assumptions, commercial assessments and recommendations for executive leaderships’ consideration
  • Conduct commercial assessments of external rare disease opportunities and make specific recommendations regarding the commercial potential to support development of corporate strategies and consistent with corporate objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong and collaborative relationships with cross functional colleagues (i.e. Research, Medical, Market Research, Clinical, Discovery, Global Value Access and Policy, Business Development, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, Sales, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or scientific field required; Advanced Business Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in the biopharma /pharmaceutical industry
  • Prior experience in Orphan and/or Rare Disease Drug markets preferred
  • Specific experience in developing high level and in-depth commercial assessments leading to important business development and clinical development decisions
  • Demonstrated successes in in-line and/or new product marketing
  • Highly skilled in leading teams in cross-functional matrix environments including interfacing with key internal and external groups in different regions and with scientific and commercial groups in different countries
  • Strong understanding of scientific data and issues as they impact product development and commercialization with a thorough understanding of the drug development process from preclinical through launch
