I am currently seeking an Executive Director, Competitive Strategy & Insights – Global Complement for my client.   The role will be responsible for both Competitive Readiness and Market Research


Looking for:

  • someone with experience building strategies in competitive markets (Biosimilar experience would be preferred)
  • Someone that can understand marketing as this person will have to collaborate with marketing team and provide right insights to answer key business/strategy questions
  • Someone that understands and has done market research roles and has a general understanding of marketing
  • This person needs to be highly strategic and provide clear input and support in the development of global business strategy
  • Have had both country and global experience preferably

As background:

  • His/Her team is strong from a market research perspective so he/she will not need to get into technical details of market research but more provide leadership and strategic guidance to the team
  • The competitive readiness piece: he/she will need to build it from scratch. So unless you have done strategy in a competitive environment already... it will be very hard to be successful in this role


TITLE:  Executive Director, Competitive Strategy & Insights – Global Complement 

LOCATION:  Western Boston, MA Area

REPORTS TO: Franchise Head                                           



The Executive Director, Competitive Strategy & Insights – Global Complement Marketing will collaborate with commercial and other functional leaders in opportunity assessment, prioritization and implementation of strategy and tactics to drive continued complement leadership in an evolving marketplace.  This leader will identify capability needs across the commercial organization and collaborate with appropriate business leaders to develop and implement strategy and tactics with a sense of urgency, keeping patients’ needs central to all decisions.  Role reports to Complement Franchise Head.



  • Culture: Actively live the company’s distinct culture in a dynamic and exciting time of growth and transformation
  • Marketing Leadership: Define and own the strategy to prepare the organization for competitive biosimilar and innovator product market entries.  Develop strategic and tactical plans in close collaboration with Global Complement Marketing Brand leaders in Hematology, Nephrology and Neurology, regional commercial leadership and functional leaders.  Work closely with country teams to ensure consistent local implementation.  Act as an expert and resource for commercial leaders seeking to understand competitive insights
  • Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to Global Complement Market Research & Insights team, as well as Director Competitive Readiness.  Clearly define roles and responsibilities of this new team, and lead the team to strong strategic contributions to the business.  Ensure that the team works appropriately within landscape of competition law of all relevant jurisdictions.  Support the team and actively build the culture during and after the company’s transition of its global headquarters to Boston  
  • Strategic Thinking: Use data, insights and diverse perspectives to create a clear and compelling strategy.  Understand complexity of business in order to better anticipate competitor strategies.  Define relevant scenarios to align and prepare the organization, creating agility in a dynamic internal and external landscape. Continually evaluate scenarios and proactively update to adapt to changes in market conditions.  Work closely with the Competitive Insights counterpart in the Business Development team to provide key competitive insights to the commercial complement organization
  • Cross-functional Alignment: Work with team of cross-functional partners to define strategy and drive organizational alignment, implementation and time-driven milestones
  • Communication: Serve as the distribution hub for clear competitive strategy and key messages across Communications, IR, commercial leadership, franchise leadership and other internal stakeholders. Effectively influence internal stakeholders across functions, geographies and levels through clear and compelling strategy
  • Define Measures of Success: Identify leading indicators and KPIs that are critical to success.  Create an agile, learning environment to ensure objectives are met with sense of urgency
  • Collaboration: Partner with Global Marketing peers, Region and Country Leadership, Global Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Communications, IR, Global Value, Access & Policy, Business Development, Commercial Operations, IT and HR to define and implement strategy


  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business field, MBA (required if degree is scientific) preferred
  • 7 years pharma and/or biotech experience with demonstrated success in multiple marketing roles
  • Track record of successful leadership of high profile strategic initiatives, including strategy development
  • Cross-functional, cross-geographic project management capabilities
  • High learning agility
  • Strong communications and influence skills
  • Prior sales or sales management experience in rare disease organization preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of (i) principles of both ethical business competition and applicable competition law, (ii) local political environments / access issues and (iii) macro-level trends that may influence business strategies and results preferred
  • Leadership experience during changing competitive environment preferred
  • Biosimilars commercial experience preferred
