Associate Director – Corporate Communications, Branding & Public Relations - SOUTH CAROLINA!

My client, a mission driven, socially conscious small pharmaceutical company located in South Carolina, is dedicated to serving the women’s healthcare needs of public health providers and their patients.

I am currently seeking an Associate Director – Corporate Communications, Branding & Public Relations to join this company.  This is NOT a marketing role.  This is a role for people in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Corporate Branding, not marketing or product communications.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • 6+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare communications via roles in Public Relations, Corporate Communications or Corporate Branding/collateral, crisis and issues management required (healthcare agency experience supporting pharma clients is acceptable)
  • 4+ years of experience in developing strategies and creating content for and/or executing social media
  • Experience in women’s health, oral contraceptives, IUDs or emergency contraceptives a plus
  • Self-motivated, critical thinker, collaborative
  • Combination of strategic and tactical skills; ability to roll up your sleeves, get your hands dirty, and be in the trenches
  • Ability to thrive in a small company
  • Launch experience is a plus
  • Travel up to 20%
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship

TITLE:  Associate Director - Corporate Communications, Branding & Public Relations

REPORTS TO: Head, Marketing & Communications

LOCATION: Charleston, South Carolina




  • Lead Corporate Branding, Corporate Communications, Public Relations and Media, Social Media, Advocacy Alliance Programs and Employee Communications
  • Manage one part-time junior staff member
  • Lead the development of annual strategy and tactical execution for all public relations, social media and corporate branding programs to drive the business forward and achieve sales and financial goals
  • Partner with the Head of Marketing and Executive Team in the creation and execution of multi-channel communications that increases brand visibility of the company with key audiences including customers, potential talent, media, industry and potential investors
  • Manage the development and execution of employee communications, to include quarterly employee newsletter
  • Keep your fingers on the pulse of public health and contraceptive landscape to help forecast impact on company business, and drive innovative thinking to capitalize on marketplace opportunities
  • Develop content calendar and production plan that amplifies thought leadership and company news through earned media, sponsored posts, speaking engagements and social media
  • Proactively identify opportunities for building awareness of the company via Professional, Trade, Social and limited Direct-to-Consumer media channels
  • Develop and manage corporate branding, logos, branding guidelines, clear and compelling corporate messaging documents
  • Crisis preparedness: Identify potential issues and develop proactive communications strategies/crisis preparedness efforts. Manage communications around issues to protect individual brands, portfolio and company
  • Manage review/approval of communications/PR material - responsible for the approval process of communications and media materials; managing all final edits of materials after legal, medical, regulatory and executive review
  • Support External Corporate initiatives to engage colleagues and build support within the larger community which can include advocacy relations activities, events and or media opportunities
  • Serve as a key media contact; build and maintain relationships with key reporters and editors
  • Manage media monitoring
  • Manage assigned budget to create maximum promotional impact
  • Develop and mentor junior staff with clear expectations, coaching, training, performance appraisals, etc., providing personal growth opportunities as appropriate


  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or related field
  • 6+ years of experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare communications, corporate branding/collateral, crisis and issues management (healthcare agency experience supporting pharma clients is acceptable)
  • 4+ years of experience in developing strategies and creating content for and/or executing social media
  • Demonstrated ability to direct and develop pharmaceutical/healthcare communications, corporate branding/collateral, crisis and issues management
  • Experience in strategic planning, development and execution of social media
  • Comfortable with executive-level interactions
  • Expertise in aligning communications initiatives to business goals
  • Ability to craft compelling positioning and messaging
  • Aptitude for easily transitioning from high-level strategic thinking to creative and detailed execution
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, exceptional presentation and spokesperson presence
  • Must be a self-starter - have exceptional organization skills and be able to work independently and effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Demonstrated decision-making and problem-solving capability and able to apply to both organization and business planning
  • Able to manage confidential and sensitive information appropriately
  • Must be proficient in MSWord, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Proficiency with CRM/email marketing automation platforms – Pardot experience a plus
  • Experience with a wide variety of communications tools including electronic media
  • Knowledge of and experience with compliance and regulatory standards/guidelines for the pharmaceutical industry
  • BIG PLUS: Experience in women’s health, oral contraceptives, IUDs or emergency contraceptives
  • Travel up to 20%
