My client, a small fully integrated biopharmaceutical company based in Westchester County, New York discovers, invents, develops, manufactures and commercializes medicines. I am currently working on a Director, Patient & Provider Access Services - Immunology role for this client.  This role is a strategic role and would sit on the TA core team, driving strategy, understanding how to manage the whole patient/prescription journey, understanding what a copay program should look like and how the programs bring value to the brand.


The ideal candidate for this role will have the following:


  • Must have in-house experience vs. only field experience. This can be directly with a pharma company, or with a vendor/consulting firm focused in this area
  • Immunology experience is a plus
  • Patient Access/Patient Services program management experience (HUB, reimbursement, copay programs, market access strategy, consumer/patient marketing, payer marketing)
  • Ability to influence without authority
  • Nursing background is a plus
  • Buy and bill experience is a plus, so is having buy and bill as well as other product experience
  • Working knowledge of specialty pharmacy is a plus
  • Ability to work in an evolving and dynamic environment/flexibility
  • Authorized to work for any employer in the US without sponsorship


TITLE:  Director, Patient & Provider Access Services – Immunology

LOCATION:  Westchester County, New York

The Director, Patient and Provider Access Services (PPS) Lead is a critical role in the newly established Market Access and Patient and Provider Access Services department. Under the direction of the Head of Patient and Provider Access Services, the Director will be responsible for the overall patient and provider access services strategy for the product. This includes but is not limited to developing and overseeing services that enhance the patient and provider experience from initial prescription through adherence. Additionally, ensure impact and quality of the product Patient Support Program and drive brand value through enhancement of the patient and provider experience. This individual will be accountable for overall access services strategy and performance of patient and provider support services for product.


This individual will develop and maintain a high-level of collaboration and integration with all cross-functional company and Alliance staff, including Field Teams, Brand Marketing, Training, Market Access, Trade, Reimbursement, HEOR, Medical and Market Research. The position is based out of Tarrytown, New York and requires a highly motivated individual that is able to work cross-functionally in order to accomplish objectives.



  • Will execute the following duties, help ensure best in class support to health care providers and patients in accessing medically necessary treatments, understanding injection procedures, complying and adhering to prescribed treatment regimens, and minimizing reimbursement obstacles that may impede treatment access
  • Drive the development, coordination and implementation of all initiatives relative to patient and physician service HUB operations, reimbursement and patient support programs that align to Brand-related strategic objectives. This includes initiatives related to streamlining and automating the patient onboarding and adherence journey
  • Lead the establishment of the product access services marketing strategy
  • Develop and implement all tactical components of the product access services marketing strategy
  • Partner with Brand Marketing team to ensure payer and reimbursement marketing strategy, messaging, and tactics consistent with Brand positioning and messaging
  • Drive initiatives to ensure product access services provides best in class support to, minimize reimbursement as a barrier in the physician office setting and enhance overall patient access to therapy
  • Develop and implement initiatives around the reimbursement and patient assistance programs that align to the brand(s) strategic objectives
  • Responsible for gathering insights related to onboarding, conversion, patient retention, copay, quality, and customer satisfaction. Also responsible for communicating those insights strategically to the Brand and senior leadership, this includes executive engagement
  • Coordinate the development of program systems (IT and communications) planning and implementation across HUB vendors and The Alliance’s internal systems experts
  • Plan, develop and execute program communications (i.e., content and processes) of the HUB, reimbursement support and patient access programs
  • Collaborate with Brand Marketing, Training, Legal, Regulatory, Analytics, Sales, and the Market Access field teams to ensure optimal execution of patient access and reimbursement strategy
  • Drive HUB, patient services, and patient assistance benchmarking, cost analyses and forecasting (both direct and administrative) to inform Brand and Sr. Management decision-making
  • Ensure appropriate Distribution, HUB and Service Provider integration across the Alliance
  • Represent the product Access services in the company’s Internal Review Committee
  • Comply with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of company activities


  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred
  • Five or more years working for a pharmaceutical manufacturer with at least three years in a leadership capacity. Previous experience in working on or managing a reimbursement or patient services program is a must. Preferred areas of experience include field sales, reimbursement or managed care account management, managed markets marketing experience, or brand marketing. 10+ years progressive industry experience
  • Confidence and ability to collaborate with senior executives in support of key initiatives
  • Proactively and independently prioritize requests and business needs.
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration (e.g. Alliance partners, Market Access Leads, Marketing, Sales Analytics, HR, Compliance, Legal, etc.)
  • Must possess excellent organizational and communication skills. This includes demonstrating an understanding of how to escalate issues/concerns, and effectively communicate with others, especially those in other functional areas
  • Strong consulting, meeting management and group process facilitation skills are required to achieve pre-defined objectives
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to influence / lobby internal and affiliate decision-makers
  • Experience in specialty products and specialty product launches required
  • Co-promotion experience preferred
  • Successful candidates will have a strong patient focus and an understanding of patient access services
  • Knowledge of Part B and D biologics marketplace
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within specified timelines and quality standards, and have excellent public presentation skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the U.S. healthcare systems, including expertise in health care reimbursement policies related to the pharmaceutical industry, with application in a wide array of clinical settings and reimbursement strategies in all market segments
  • Clear understanding of the implications of payer and reimbursement policy impact on prescriber and patient behaviors as well as sales force activity
  • Must be an ethical, team player and have the ability to work in a cross-functional team environment - contributing creative ideas and positive energy to the group
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25%
