This Regional Director of Clinical Informatics is for one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country. With over 60 acute care locations, they are a community 45,000 strong with over 15,000 physicians providing individualized care. I have personally placed several executives within this system and can tell you all about their culture, vision, and financial viability. 


This person will have the unique responsibility of developing the clinical guidelines on a regional scale as well as improving proficiency for all nurses and physicians. This particular market of six campuses has a Magnet facility and is a national leader in patient satisfaction, advanced technology and quality initiatives. There will be occasional travel within the region with one direct report, and this Regional Director will report to the System Senior Vice President of Primary Care.

  • Fit with the team
  • Enlist support for strategically relevant clinical programs that need to be designed or improved with special focus on developing effective clinical informatics.
  • Works with clinical and operational leaders the respond to evolving clinical needs in a systematic fashion.
  • Educate leaders on the tremendous role that effective clinical informatics plays in successful clinical operations initiatives.
  • Collaborate with key technology leaders including System Director of Clinical Informatics, System Medical Director of Clinical Informatics, Regional CIO and System Director of Applications.


  • A. Education
     MD Required 
    • Board Certified in Clinical Informatics (preferred)
  • B. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications:
    • State of Texas Medical License -- Required
    • Board Certification in an ABMS Specialty - Required
    • Board Certified in Clinical Informatics - Preferred
  • C. Experience
    • Minimum of five years of progressive clinical informatics experience.
    • Minimum of three years of experience in implementing and optimizing EMR technology required.
    • Experience with Epic as a clinical user and informaticist required.
  • D. Skills
    • Demonstrated ability for clinical workflow analysis, EMR design, and EMR implementation.
    • Demonstrated ability for implementing enhanced clinician experience and clinician proficiency with the EMR.
    • Experience supporting and implementing population health initiatives from a technology and clinical workflow perspective.
    • A high level of interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy required to deal effectively with a wide variety of internal and external publics in the United States and internationally
    • Knowledge of medical and other clinical professional standards of care and scope of practice in hospitals and ambulatory clinics.
    • Demonstrated abilities required to develop policies/procedures, prepare and monitor budgets, and effectively lead/manage associates through an influential model
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities required to provide executive leadership in addressing challenges/opportunities and to gain acceptance of others in difficult situations.
    • Knowledge of requirements of external quality and safety organizations/agencies and accreditation standards across the continuum of care both in the United States and international
    • Demonstrated strategic and analytical ability necessary to formulate long-range plans and evaluate data required
    • Clinical Practice Requirement: 20 percent of work time will be dedicated to clinical practice in the relevant specialty of the associate.
