Job Description
The Production Planning Manager has primary responsibility to balance orders for manufacture with the plants and control inventory and assure its proper disposition. The Production Planning Manager will also have responsibility for planning production schedules for the manufacture of polymers, developing a master schedule to meet delivery dates, as well as analyzing plant capacity and planning and scheduling work flow for each plant operation. In addition, the Production Planning Manager will confer with department heads to determine status of assigned projects, expedite operations that delay schedules and prepare production reports.


Job Responsibilities

  • Establishes guidelines and develops production schedules for manufacturing departments in conjunction with production planning staff.
  • Establishes and achieves inventory plan.
  • Supervises planners and the oversight of the preparation and finalizing of production schedules for manufacture.
  • Oversees planning and plant production workflow to ensure plants are operating according to established sequences and lead times.
  • Assists various departments with planning for effective utilization of off-spec.
  • Determines the status of expedited orders and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions.
  • Develops defined work packages including work instructions, labels, references, and inspection requirements to initiate and control production work.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and reports performance to schedule of production utilizing information derived from ERP systems.
  • Ensures the execution of planning objective and interfaces with purchasing, customer service, logistics, receiving and shipping in order to fully coordinate customer shipments.
  • Coordinates the resolution of discrepancy reports.
    Implements and maintains all components of the performance management system for all direct reports.
  • Manages production planning staff and scheduling of material flow to meet production schedules and customer requirements.
  • Creates and maintains a master schedule that supports business forecast, including establishing lead-times, lot sizes, and safety stocks.
  • Analyzes demand requirements to identify production and supply bottlenecks and recommends actions for resolution.
  • Directs production planning to ensure on time availability of products to fill customer orders and on-time shipments.
  • Conducts capacity planning and provides input to manufacturing regarding anticipated machine or manpower capacity issues.
  • Coordinates with purchasing departments for any changes or updated requirements for purchased goods and materials.
  • Evaluates and recommends actions to improve on-time delivery performance to the customer.



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Business Administration, or Engineering is required. BS in Chemistry is preferred.
  • A minimum of seven years combined, successful and progressive planning experience in the chemical industry required.
  • ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) experience required.
  • Three years supervisory experience is required.
  • Omnis experience is preferred.
  • Oracle database management systems experience.
  • Demonstrated continual improvement track record.
  • Understanding of and/or ability to learn products manufactured and corresponding chemistry of the products.
  • Competency at the intermediate to advanced level in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Excel and Access.
