In the heart of the Austin city limits is a Surgical Hospital that is drastically expanding. This Joint Commission Accredited facility is increasing volume drastically, and is looking to add an experienced Extended Care Nurse to their organization. They do all facets of general surgery in their 8 bed unit, seeing 300 patients monthly with a targeted 15 minute turnaround time in the operating room.

Position Requirements

Licenses or Certifications: Current licensure to practice in the State of Texas.  Successful completion of Basic Cardiac Life Support Course; ACLS required and PALS preferred. 


Education, Vocational Training and Experience

Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.  Current ACLS and PALS certificate preferred. 



Minimum of 2 years experience in hospital or ambulatory surgery setting preferred.


Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge and experience in hospital nursing, PACU/intensive care or ambulatory surgery care (direct care).
  2. Ability to utilize resources in an organized manner.
  3. Effective communication skills.
  4. Effective positive interpersonal and customer relations skills via telephone and face-to-face interaction.
  5. Displays positive attitude towards other employees.
  6. Ability to set priorities.
  7. Ability to provide direction to others that is clear, concise and promotes efficiency on the unit.
  8. Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc.
  9. Ability to correlate clinical data with patient's medical and nursing care.
  10. Ability to accommodate occasional frustration and anger on part of patients, families, and fellow nursing staff.
  11. Ability to transcribe physicians orders accurately and read labels and instructions completely.
  12. Responsible for patients post-surgery; monitors and cares of patients.
  13. Prepare patients for discharge.
  14. Care for neonates, children, adolescents and adults and geriatric patients.
  15. Perform assigned laboratory functions.
