Senior Product Manager OR Director of Marketing:


My client, a VC backed start-up in Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina, has an already approved product ready to launch, in addition to aspirations of further acquisitions in multiple categories.  This is an opportunity to literally be on the ground floor of this unique organization as it builds the infrastructure in preparation of the launch.  This is an opportunity to help shape the company’s culture and to work closely with the board and the VC firm!


Being a true start-up, you will have the ability to showcase your skills, but also learn a lot in a variety of other disciplines you might not otherwise get exposure to. 


We are currently looking at candidates already in the Raleigh/Durham, NC area, so no relocation.



  • 4-6 years life sciences product/brand management experience in the US market
  • Experience in specialty pharmacy distribution channel a strong plus (specialty pharmacy, trade, distribution)
  • Experience with orphan products or high value cardio/pulmonary products a plus
  • Desire to roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty!
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in ambiguity

TITLE:  Senior Manager/Director, Marketing

REPORTS TO:  Chief Commercial Officer



This individual will be responsible for the marketing strategy and implementation of the upcoming launch of a high-end drug to treat patients with a rare, life-threatening disease. As part of this role, he/she will work closely with the sales team and with specialty pharmacy distribution partners. This person will be a foundational member of a growing, venture capital backed company.



  • Create the marketing strategy and develop and implement an effective tactical plan
  • Develop tactics and lead these projects through the process of development, approval, and production
  • Partner with specialty pharmacies, including contract negotiations, data analysis, provision of patient education and resources, and quality oversight
  • Work with sales team to drive execution in the field and adapt based on feedback
  • Participate in sales training to educate on the market and the marketing strategy
  • Develop constructive relationship with alliance partner and participate on joint working teams
  • Lead projects through the joint alliance Medical/Legal/Regulatory approval process and where appropriate the specialty pharmacy approval process as well
  • Manage finance processes including PO generation, SOW approval, and invoice payment
  • Partner with external vendors such as advertising agencies, printers, and consultants to enable effective and efficient project execution


  • Bachelor Degree, MBA or Master’s Degree, preferred
  • 4-6 years life sciences product/brand management experience in the US market
  • Outstanding work ethic and ability to execute in an ambiguous environment
  • Experience commercializing through specialty pharmacy distribution channel, preferred
  • Sales experience and/or marketing experience directly partnering with the sales force, preferred
  • Experience working on high value and/or orphan disease products in Cardio or Pulmonary therapeutic areas, preferred
