Associate Director, Thought Leader/KOL Engagement - Immunology: 

My client, a mid-sized, well-established multi-billion global pharmaceutical company in the Atlanta suburbs, aims to be the next generation biopharmaceutical leader based on unique blending of innovation, entrepreneurship and experience, bringing breakthrough innovation and new medicines for patients suffering from severe disease.  My client operates in more than 40 countries, integrating technology and chemistry so they can gain much deeper insights into disease pathways, including the complexities of severe diseases, as well as producing more potent, cost-effective drugs.

Currently seeking an Associate Director, Thought Leader/KOL Engagement.  This person will be responsible for external engagement – KOL’s, MSL’s, including speaker bureaus, conferences, KOL events, congress content, speaker trainings, ensuring contracts in place with TL’s, etc.  This position is based in the Atlanta, GA office and you must be willing to relocate there.

Atlanta area....a great place to live and has a much cheaper cost of living than the northeast!


  • Prior experience in a developing and executing engagement strategy to strengthen relationships with key influencers (KOLs, professional organizations, associations, internal teams, etc), build brand equity, and promote the product
  • Experience focused in Thought Leader Engagement, including congress, symposium, ad boards, speaker training, and speaker bureaus planning AND execution (this can be someone with this current experience in a TL Engagement role, a Medical Education role, a marketing ops role, a sales ops role, a marketing role, or a field marketing role)
  • Immunology experience a plus
  • Biologics experience a plus
  • Strong communication and influencing skills
  • Prior sales and sales management experience a plus
  • Ability to travel extensively (up to 70%). Travel will drop to 30-40% in 2019

The Influence Interaction Lead is responsible for developing and executing on an engagement strategy designed to instill continuity in the company’s relationships with Key Immunology Influencers, build brand equity, and promote the brand. The scope includes all brand peer to peer influence activities, such as conferences, congresses, exhibits, speaker bureau programs, advisory boards and other initiatives that enable and support professional engagement opportunities for the brand. This position reports to the Head, Influence Integration.


The ideal candidate must possess exceptional strategic planning, organizational and communications skills, have strong executive presence and be able to work under tight deadlines. This position requires the ability to synthesize brand’s goals with meaningful industry and competitive data to develop a marketing plan for conferences, congresses, regional events, and US brand sponsored events.


This position has tactical and administrative duties encompassing both the planning phases and on-site execution. Key to success will be strong internal communication across many levels, collaboration skills, including the ability to succeed in a highly matrixed environment of working directly with multiple internal teams to ensure consistent brand messaging and seamless execution.




  • Primary responsibilities comprise management and support of influencer (opinion leaders) programs, including, but are not limited to the following:
  • Support field teams with local medical meetings, including resource development and exhibits, tailored by therapeutic area
  • Advisory boards execution and logistics aligned to therapeutic area strategic needs
  • Manage and enhance relationships with internal colleagues, including the medical and sales teams to leverage all opportunities at conferences and events.
  • Actively manage and enhance key strategic partners/vendors to ensure execution on agreed timelines, budget, and quality deliverables
  • Participate on cross-functional teams and represent Influence Integration function at Review Committee (RC) meetings as well as other internal meetings
  • Ensure key deliverables are executed in accordance with the company’s compliance and regulatory policies and integrated into core marketing deliverable
  • Triage all customer leads from conferences and events
  • Measure effectiveness of all conferences and events
  • Budget management 



  • Bachelors’ degree in marketing, communications, journalism, strategic communications, or business required; Masters’ degree preferred
  • Pharmaceutical sales experience is a plus
  • Previous experience which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job of building customer relationships through exhibit management, event planning, integrated marketing and corporate communications along with project/fiscal management responsibility, including:
    • Experience in KOL management and Peer-to-Peer/Speaker Bureau
    • Experience developing and managing promotional materials, projects, and resources to meet key internal and external customer needs.
    • Experience in synthesizing market research and data analysis and incorporating these insights into strategic planning
    • Understanding of working within corporate structure for approval processes
    • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines with a quality product and on budget
